FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MIDDLEBURG, PA – The membership of the Reliance Hose Company No. 1 of Middleburg, PA voted on Monday, July 13, 2020 to cancel the annual carnival and suspend all activities relating to the large event. The department and its stakeholders deeply regret making this decision that is not only the company’s largest fundraising effort, but a long-awaited community event that draws people from the tri-county area. The Reliance Hose Company made very attempt to sustain the event and pushed making the decision, whether to continue or cancel, to the last possible moment. The decision was made on the basis of the uncertainty of COVID-19, the related restrictions and state government approval needed for the parade, which has been denied. Other aspects of the carnival were limited prior to the decision because of vendors not being willing to function with the current climate. These include but are not limited to the fireworks show and some of the entertainment canceling their shows. We would, however, like to say “thank you” for all the donations that we have received thus far over the course of the last few months. The support and generosity of our local community is greatly appreciated. The leadership and members of Reliance are working to strategize a plan to host other events to combat lost income from the cancellation.
